About pdf to png
PNG and JPEG solve different problems, and for PDF pages the difference is visible. JPEG compresses by discarding detail the eye is unlikely to notice in photographs, which works beautifully on a scanned photo and badly on a hard edge. Black text on a white background is nothing but hard edges, so JPEG puts a faint grey shimmer around every letter. PNG compresses losslessly, so the letterforms come out exactly as rendered.
That makes PNG the correct choice for documents that are primarily text, diagrams, charts, screenshots, or line art. Contracts, invoices, forms, technical drawings, and slide exports all belong here. The cost is file size — a text page as PNG is routinely three to eight times the size of the same page as JPEG, because there is no lossy step doing the heavy lifting. For a handful of pages that is irrelevant. For two hundred pages it is the deciding factor.
Rendering happens through PDF.js onto a canvas in this tab, then the canvas is encoded to PNG. Resolution behaves the same way it does for JPEG: screen for display, print for anything going on paper or being cropped into, high for archival and fine detail. Because PNG is lossless, the resolution setting is doing all of the quality work — there is no separate quality slider, and there does not need to be one.
PNG also supports transparency, which matters in one specific case: pulling a logo, diagram, or signature out of a PDF to place on another background. Enable the transparent background option and the page renders without its white fill, so only the drawn content is opaque. For ordinary page conversion leave it off, since a transparent page looks broken in most viewers and image editors that composite onto black.

Is PNG better than JPG for PDF pages?
For text and line art, yes — no compression artefacts around the edges. For scanned photographs, JPEG is better because it is far smaller with no visible difference.
Why are my PNG files so large?
PNG is lossless, so nothing is thrown away. A text page can be several times the size of the JPEG equivalent. Drop the resolution or use JPEG if size matters more than edge sharpness.
Can I get a transparent background?
Yes. Enable the transparency option and the page renders without its white fill. Useful for extracting a logo or diagram; not useful for ordinary page conversion.
What resolution should I choose?
Screen for on-screen use, print for anything going on paper, high for archival or fine detail like maps and drawings.
Does converting to PNG lose quality?
No. PNG is lossless, so the image matches the render exactly. The only quality variable is the resolution you render at.
